MALAYSIA: Foreign National Workers Reminded to Transfer Passes to New Passports

January 22, 2020

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has issued a reminder that a Foreign Knowledge Worker or dependent who holds a valid employment pass or dependent pass and obtains a new passport should urgently complete a Transfer of Endorsement (TOE) to the new passport.

However, MDEC highlights three exceptions where a TOE is not required if the current pass is expiring within seven days:

  • Renewal of pass – if a new passport is obtained during the pass renewal application;
  • Change of job position;
  • Change of employer – if cancelation procedures have been completed before a new passport is issued.

In addition, MDEC has announced that, effective immediately, Special Pass applications must be paid for by bank draft, rather than cash as previously.  A Special Pass can be obtained if a current employment or dependent pass is expiring or a new pass is being processed, and is valid for 30 days.
