ARGENTINA: Ten-Year Police Clearance Certificates Now Required for Immigration Applications

March 7, 2019

Effective 6 March 2019, the immigration authorities have published a new regulation requiring police clearance certificates submitted in support of immigration applications to include the applicant’s criminal record for the ten years prior to the certificate’s issuance.

For residence applications, Argentina requires police clearance certificates from an applicant’s place of birth and from countries where the applicant has lived for at least one year in the three years prior to submitting the application. Obtaining ten-year criminal records from these countries’ authorities may take several months and delay the application submission.

This new requirement has been established on the grounds of reciprocity – Argentina issues ten-year criminal records for Argentinian nationals settling abroad.
