CHINA: Business Visa Invitation Letters Stopped in Beijing and Shanghai

October 13, 2016

It is expected that the time period to obtain business visas for China is likely to be reduced after government agencies in Beijing and Shanghai ceased issuing M (business) visa invitation letters.

Companies in Beijing and Shanghai are no longer required to obtain government invitation letters in order to support M visa applications for visitors.

As a result, Chinese consulates overseas will now be able to accept invitation letters that are issued by Chinese companies located in Beijing and Shanghai.

The policy has not yet been implemented by local authorities in other Chinese cities.

Our advice

We recommend that M visa applicants check the exact requirements for invitation letters before submitting an application. This is especially important since the rules vary dependant on the applicant”s nationality, the city in China they are visiting as well as the country in which the application is being made.
