INDIA: Biometrics Scanning Required at Certain Foreigner Regional Registration Offices

May 3, 2017

With immediate effect, Indian authorities have introduced a biometric requirement for foreign nationals applying for visa extensions and registration at the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) in Pune and at the Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Foreign nationals submitting registration or visa extension applications at these registration offices will be required to submit fingerprints and eye scans as part of the application process.

This requirement may also extend to other FROs and FRROs in the future.

Please note that biometric records collected at the FRROs are being cross-checked with those collected at ports of entry from those using the eVisa system, and this could lead to delays in clearing immigration at the airports and in completing registration or other FRO/FRRO processes.

Our advice

Foreign nationals travelling to India should allow for delays in clearing immigration at the airports and in completing registration or other FRO/FRRO processes.
