CANADA – Express Entry system revamp: What employers need to know.
January 6, 2025
By: Nouran Hassan, Legal Administrative Assistant, Newland Chase Canada.
Canada has announced changes to its Express Entry system to tackle fraud and ensure a fairer immigration process. Beginning in spring 2025, job offers will no longer contribute additional points in Express Entry applications. This move aims to curb the misuse of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs).
With this change, the government is seeking to address fraudulent practices involving the buying and selling of LMIAs. By eliminating extra points for job offers, Canada aims to uphold the integrity of its immigration programs.
Who is affected by changes to Express Entry?
- All new and existing Express Entry candidates.
- Exceptions include those already invited to apply or with applications in progress.
- Temporary workers already in Canada will also be subject to this updated policy.
Potential impact of the changes.
The removal of job offer points will increase competition within the Express Entry pool. Additionally, employers and applicants may need to consider alternative pathways, such as Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs), to enhance their chances.
With the revised Express Entry criteria, businesses should adapt their strategies for hiring international talent. Exploring PNPs and ensuring robust compliance with immigration policies will be essential.
