Immigration Summary

The Temporary Residence for Migrant Worker is the standard process for foreign nationals working in Guatemala. Temporary Residence can be requested for between one and five years and is renewable up to five years. Beyond five years, a permanent residence application must be submitted. A local contract is required, and the local sponsoring employer must register annually with the immigration authorities.

The Traveller Visa is the process for applicants assigned temporarily to Guatemala for up to 180 days, if payroll and contract remain with the sending entity abroad. No employment relationship with a Guatemalan entity is allowed without a work permit.
