Azerbaijan Immigration Summary

Foreign nationals working at an Azerbaijani legal entity or a branch or representative office of a foreign legal entity usually require a Work Permit based on a local employment contract, a work visa authorised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, migration registration and a temporary residence permit. The work and residence permits are valid for up to 12 months and renewable indefinitely.

A work permit is not required for the directors and deputy directors of foreign legal entities, their branches or representative offices, or locally incorporated companies with at least one foreign national shareholder, as well as shipbuilding specialists with at least one year of professional experience and a university degree or relevant professional qualification, contracted at the Garadagh Industrial Park. These applicants still require a Work Visa, registration and temporary residence permit.

A work permit is not required for applicants sent to Azerbaijan for less than 90 days per year in certain industries, where the assignee is being sent to fulfil foreign contractual obligations to an Azeri client company or assisting with a short technical project, but remains on foreign payroll and contract.
