Current Situation

  • Major Earthquakes: Two major earthquakes (magnitudes 7.1 and 7.5) struck the Venezuelan coast near Caracas on June 24, 2026.
  • Airport Disruptions: Caracas International Airport (Maiquetía) is operating under significant limitations until further notice. Travelers should check directly with their airline, as scheduled flights may be delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled due to the ongoing emergency.
  • Infrastructure Impacts: Widespread structural damage has been reported in Caracas and surrounding areas. Internet and power outages continue to affect communications and essential services. Authorities have warned that aftershocks are possible and are advising residents to remain in safe locations and avoid unnecessary travel between municipalities whenever possible.

Newland Chase recommends postponing all non-essential travel to Venezuela until conditions stabilize. Airport operations are currently prioritizing emergency and assistance flights, while significant disruption to transportation and public infrastructure continues.
