ESTONIA – Dependant permits can now be issued to same-sex partners.

August 19, 2024

By: Hannah In-Chan

The Estonian authorities have expanded the issuance of dependant permits to include same-sex partners, provided they meet the following conditions:

  • They are in a civil or registered partnership equivalent to marriage.
  • They can provide evidence of their civil or registered partnership.
  • The certificate is legalized or issued with an apostille, where required.
  • The main work/residence applicant’s permit is approved. While the dependant can submit their application following the main applicant’s permit request, the dependant’s permit will only be issued if the main applicant’s permit is successful.

In addition to being allowed to reside in Estonia, holders of the dependant permit will be permitted to work in Estonia.
