Irish authorities have issued a Travel Confirmation Notice to assist non-EEA nationals who need to renew their IRP Card to travel over the Christmas period. This allows travel using a recently expired IRP Card, provided the renewal application was submitted before the card expired. This arrangement is only valid from December 8, 2025, to January 31, 2026.
Due to current backlogs, Immigration Service Delivery (SD) may take up to two additional weeks to issue Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards after registration.
Customers should download and print the Travel Confirmation Notice from the DOJ/ISD website and present it, along with their expired IRP Card and proof of renewal application (e.g., email confirmation), to immigration authorities or airlines if requested.
The Department will continue processing renewal applications and will notify airlines and foreign missions of this initiative. However, travellers passing through a third country must comply with that country’s immigration requirements, including visas if applicable.
Further details on these arrangements can be found in the FAQs for the 2025 Travel Confirmation Notice, which is also available on the DOJ/ISD website.
