New information relating to Japan’s pre-entry tuberculosis screening for certain nationalities has been provided. The screening program was previously covered in this alert.

Designated clinics in The Philippines and Nepal have now been announced by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, where long-term assignees of the respective nationality can take a tuberculosis screening test. The test result can be submitted as a new document requirement as part of a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) application.

Pre-entry screening becomes required from the following dates:

  • Philippines and Nepal nationals: June 23, 2025
  • Vietnamese nationals: September 1, 2025

There is no information yet available on designated clinics in Vietnam.
