Important Note: The August 2021 transition of power in Afghanistan will most likely bring changes to the country’s visa and immigration system; however, these changes have not yet been announced by the Afghan government and a timeframe for these announcements is unknown. Afghanistan’s airports and borders are currently closed.
Prior to the recent transition of power, foreign nationals going to work in Afghanistan were first required to request entry visa approval from the Afghanistan Central Business Registry (ACBR), and then apply for an entry visa from an Afghan consular post abroad. The host company was also required to be registered with ACBR. Post-arrival, the applicant was also required to obtain a Work Permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MOLSA) and a 6-month multiple-entry work visa from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior. Dependent family members were required to obtain a residence visa.
