NEW ZEALAND – AEWV Trial Periods Removed

October 12, 2023

Immigration officials in New Zealand have made another change to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) program.

The 90-day trial period for AEWV holders has been dropped as of late October of this year. Only companies with 19 or fewer employees were eligible to use the trial period, so the number of AEWV holders affected is likely to be small. The rule change will not apply to already-approved job check trial periods, or migrants who already hold, or have applied for, an AEWV.

Potential employers should remove any trial periods from their hiring plans. Although the New Zealand National Party has indicated it may reinstate the 90-day trial period for companies of all sizes if it takes power in New Zealand’s national elections on 14 October.
