AUSTRALIA – To Be Added to UK ETA

June 23, 2023

Australia will be included in the United Kingdom’s Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system when it fully rolls out sometime in 2024. The ETA is an electronic entry document for countries currently engaged in visa-waiver schemes with the United Kingdom.

Previously, Australian visitors could apply for an entry document upon arrival in the UK. The ETA, however, must be obtained before a traveler departs for the United Kingdom. Visitors to the UK from the US, Japan, and Spain are also likely to need an ETA before entry.

The launch of the ETA will be performed in stages, with visitors from Qatar needing to obtain an ETA beginning 15 November 2023, and citizens of other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as Jordan, being added in February 2024. A full implementation for all affected countries is expected sometime later in 2024.
