BELGIUM: Integration Statement Now Required for Non-EU Nationals

April 8, 2016

All Non-EU nationals residing in Belgium for longer than 3 months will now be subject to submitting a signed statement, in which they will promise to integrate into Belgium society and respect all laws and values. The rule is expected to come into place during summer this year. The statement will need to be signed during the visa application, which will take place at the Belgium consular post, or at local town halls in Belgium, once the registration process has started.

When the new rule comes into force, it will also mean that non-EU nationals will need to provide proof to the immigration office that they have integrated into Belgium society. It is thought that non-EU nationals will most likely have to provide additional documents and attestations which may include an employment contract, and being able to speak one of the official languages in Belgium (Dutch, French or German), although this is yet to be confirmed.

We will post further updates when they are confirmed but in the meantime, if you require any further information on immigration in Belgium, please email us at [email protected].
