Immigration Summary
US nationals, Kosovan nationals and nationals of EU member states and other Schengen countries wishing to stay and work in Albania can enter visa-free at any time. They must obtain a Work Permit Exemption and, for stays beyond 90 days, a residence permit (US nationals can stay for up to one year without a residence permit).
Foreign nationals locally hired in Albania for more than 90 days in a 180-day period require a Work Permit (Local Hire), issued initially for one year and then renewable; a type D visa; and a residence permit.
Intra-Company Transferees (Managers and Specialists) assigned to work in Albania for more than 90 days in a 180-day period require a work permit (type T/N), valid for the length of the assignment up to five years; a type D visa; and a residence permit. They must have been employed by the group for at least six uninterrupted months immediately preceding the transfer.
A Work Registration Certificate (rather than a work permit) allows certain work activities for up to 60 days in one year, including audit and consultancy services and the installation and repair of machinery delivered by a foreign company and provision of training in its use. Intra-corporate transferees intending to work in Albania for up to 90 days in one year can also obtain a Work Registration Certificate.
