CANADA – Expansion of Francophone Mobility Program

The government of Canada has announced an expansion of the Francophone Mobility Program (FMP) for a period of two years. The FMP is an initiative to increase the number of French-speaking nationals seeking work and residency in Canada.
The expansion of the program allows Canadian employers to make job offers to foreign individuals who can demonstrate a moderate command of the French language in fields excluding agriculture. The FMP was originally designed for temporary workers, though workers who travel to Canada under the FMP can apply that work experience towards applications for permanent residence.
To qualify for the Francophone Mobility Program, individuals must demonstrate a moderate language proficiency of French for both oral comprehension and oral expression. This is equivalent to a level 5 of language requirements. Applicants must provide proof they meet these criteria though documentation including a French evaluation test or the French competencies test, a diploma or degree from a French college or university, or a document confirming studies at a French-language institution.
