AUSTRALIA – Skilled visa income thresholds to increase from July 1, 2025.
April 4, 2025
The indexation changes reflect Government’s efforts to protect local wages and facilitate the attraction and retention of global talent to address skills shortages.
Businesses employing skilled migrants should review their workforce plans and salary structures to consider these new salary thresholds in preparation for 1 July 2025.
Income thresholds for skilled visas will increase from July 1, 2025, by 4.6 percent to align with the annual indexation of the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE).
The revised income thresholds will be:
- Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): Increasing from AUD73,150 to AUD76,515, affecting nomination applications under the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186).
- Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): Increasing from AUD135,000 to AUD141,210, impacting nominations under the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).
- Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): Increasing from AUD73,150 to AUD76,515, applying to the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494) and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187). This adjustment is subject to legislative approval.
The salary for positions nominated after July 1, 2025, must comply with these revised income thresholds. Existing visa holders and nomination applications lodged before July 1, 2025 are not impacted.
