PHILIPPINES – Launch of a digital nomad visa.
April 29, 2025
By: Patricia Clarino, Senior Manager, Newland Chase Advisory
On April 24, 2025, the Philippine President signed Executive Order No. 86, establishing the legal framework for the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV). The DNV allows foreign nationals to enter and remain temporarily in the Philippines while working remotely, provided their employers or clients are based outside the country.
The Digital Nomad Visa will be valid for one year and may be renewed with multiple entry privileges. The application can be submitted through a Philippine Foreign Service Post closest to the applicant’s place of residence.
The visa’s issuance and facilitation will be managed by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with the Bureau of Immigration (BI). Guidelines on the issuance, renewals and revocations are still in process and should be expected to be completed within 30 days of the Order’s effective date. The pilot implementation of this program is expected to be rolled out within 60 days.
Key requirements for visa applicants are to:
- be at least 18 years old;
- prove remote work through digital technology;
- show sufficient income earned outside the Philippines;
- provide proof of no criminal record;
- have valid health insurance;
- be from a country that offers DNVs to Filipinos and has a Philippine Foreign Service Post (FSP);
- pose no threat to Philippine security; and
- not be employed within the Philippines.
Newland Chase insights.
The introduction of the Digital Nomad Visa provides a significant opportunity for the Philippines to attract foreign professionals seeking to work remotely in the country while contributing to the local economy. Companies and applicants should ensure strict adherence to compliance requirements, especially concerning income, employment status, and security clearance procedures. The government appears to be implementing stringent policies for monitoring remote workers within the country.
