AUSTRALIA: New Visa Programs Introduced for Singaporean Citizens
June 26, 2017
From 1st August 2017, Singapore will be included under Australia’s Work and Holiday Visa program. In addition, Australia will introduce a six-year multiple-entry visa to citizens of Singapore for business and tourism purposes from 1st January 2018.
These new measures were announced at the recent Singapore-Australian Leader’s Summit by Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and have been introduced in an effort to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) Program
Under the Work and Holiday Visa Program, up to 500 Singaporeans aged 30 years or younger will be permitted to visit Australia per year to engage in short-term work or study from 1st August 2017. The multiple-entry visa will allow each applicant to stay in Australia for a period of up to 12 months, during which time they can either work for an employer for six months at a time or study for up to four months.
It is expected that Singapore will reciprocate by implementing a similar visa program that will allow young Australians entry to Singapore.
Six-Year Multiple-Entry Visa
From 1st January 2018 Singaporean citizens will be permitted to stay in Australia for an unlimited number of 90-day periods within the six year limit, for either business or tourism purposes.
These new visa programs have been introduced to further increase business and tourism visits from Singapore, with Australia having this year enjoyed a 16% increase on 2016’s figures.
