Biometric Requirement Schengen Visa for all South Asian Countries

The Visa Information System (VIS) is a central database which supports the exchange of data on short-stay visas between Schengen states. It has already been implemented in 19 regions since October 2011, and was rolled out in East and South Asia in October and November 2015 respectively. By the end of November 2015, the VIS will be implemented worldwide.
From 2nd November 2015, visa applicants from all South Asian countries for a Schengen visa type C are now required to register their biometric information when submitting an application. Those that wish to enter the Schengen area for a period of 90 days or less will have their fingerprints stored in the new VIS. This information will be stored on the VIS for a period of 59 months.
Some people are exempt from enrolling their biometrics as per the new system. Those that are exempt include children under the age of 12, heads of state and members of national governments and those in which the collection of fingerprints is physically impossible. Those that frequently travel to the Schengen area do not have to give new fingerprints every time they apply for a new visa and they can be reused for further applications over the 59 month period in which the information is stored.
