BRAZIL: Ministry Restructuring May Affect Immigration Processing

January 8, 2019

On 1 January 2019, the new administration published Provisional Measure 870, reorganising government Ministries and public agencies.

Among the significant changes introduced, the Ministry of Labour has been eliminated, responsibility for immigration has been passed to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and the Immigration National Counsel (CNIg), has become part of that Ministry’s basic structure.

It is not yet possible to estimate the impact of this change. However, since the end of 2018, residence processing has been subject to delays.

Our Advice

Employers are advised to submit residence applications as early as possible to avoid delays to their projects.

Newland Chase will continue to monitor residence permit processing and response times.
