August 3, 2016

Hong Kong migration to Canada has increased by 85% compared to last year according to statistics released by Mercan Capital Ltd and Ming Pao East Canada edition.

Canadian Government”s Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) statistics have revealed that there were 162 more Hong Kong immigrants this year than in the same period last year, and the number of immigration applications from Hong Kong in the first quarter has increased by 17% compared to the same period in 2015.

The CIC was told by Ming Pao that the increase in Hong Kong immigrants was directly related to the increase in applications made in 2014.

The Security Bureau statistics indicate that the United States was the most popular destination for Hong Kong immigrants last year, followed by Australia and Canada.

According to IT sector lawmaker Charles Mok, the increase in the Hong Kongese migrating to Canada was related to the city”s atmosphere and the poor administration of the government. He added that since education policies were frequently criticised, it is not surprising to see these migrants moving abroad for overseas studies.
