COLOMBIA: Mercosur Visa No Longer Open to Chilean Nationals

March 5, 2019

Effective immediately, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will no longer grant migrant visas to Chilean nationals on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement, although no changes to the immigration regulations have been made to this effect.

Nationals of Chile who hold a valid Mercosur migrant visa can remain in Colombia while their current immigration status is valid. If they wish to remain in Colombia beyond this, however, they should apply for the appropriate visa before this status expires.

This is understood to be a reciprocal measure, as Chile does not allow Colombian nationals to obtain residence on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement.
