COLOMBIA: Venezuelan Nationals Can Enter with Expired Passports

March 13, 2019

Effective immediately, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will allow entry, transit and departure of Venezuelan nationals holding expired or soon-to-expire passports.

Resolution 0872 of 2019, which entered into force on 7 March 2019, establishes that a Venezuelan passport that has expired or is about to expire can be used for two years from the date of expiry, to enter, transit or depart Colombia. It can also be used as an identity document, as long as it bears the stamp of an entry and stay permit granted by the Special Administrative Unit of Migración Colombia.

Venezuelans who enter Colombia with expired passports can obtain entry and stay permits in accordance with the current regulations established by Migración Colombia, and may request the issuance or renewal of visas in accordance with the provisions in force established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
