Companies hiring foreign workers in the Czech Republic should review compliance procedures concerning right-to-work checks and Labor Office registration at the time of residence permit renewal, making sure to account for the new notification requirement.

The Czech Ministry of Labor has introduced additional obligations on employers regarding notification requirements when hiring foreign workers.

Employers of foreign workers are required to notify the Labor Office of the entry and termination dates of foreign workers hired locally, including EU/EEA/Swiss nationals. The notification (Labor Office registration) must be submitted online and completed on or before the first day of work. The employer must retain proof of the notification submission.

Labor Office registration is now mandatory not only at the time of initial hire. As of March 2025, it is also mandatory at the time of the employee’s residence permit renewal. Upon renewal and collection of the new residence permit by the employee, employers are required to submit a new notification to the Labor Office, including the new residence permit number. The same fee will apply, as for the initial registration.
