EGYPT: Certain Nationals Required to Register with Authorities
July 14, 2017
It is now mandatory for nationals from certain countries to register with the immigration authorities within seven days of entry into Egypt.
This applies to holders of business, tourist and work visas, and also applies to holders of Egyptian residency permits.
The affected nationalities are as follows:
- Algeria
- India
- Lebanon
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- Syria
- Tunisia
The immigration authorities have advised that nationals from a number of Eastern Asian countries will also be subject to this requirement, although no official list has yet been released.
Nationals from any of the above countries are required to visit the Egyptian Immigration Authority, or any police station with an immigration department desk, within seven days of their arrival into Egypt and present their original passport which they used to enter the country.
Individuals who fail to register within the required timescale could face monetary fines between EGP 350 and EGP 1500, and may experience difficulty when departing Egypt or when attempting to obtain Residency Visa endorsement.
Our advice
Nationals of the above countries, regardless of the reason for their visit or which category of visa they are under, must register with the immigration authorities by presenting their original passport within seven days of arrival in Egypt.
