MEXICO: Increased Immigration Verification Visits

June 8, 2018

The National Institute of Migration (INM) has recently increased the number of immigration verification visits.

The purpose of the INM verification visit is to corroborate the existence and normal operation of the company and to prove the legal status of foreign employees.

Some cases that may increase the possibility of a company receiving an immigration verification visit include the following:

  • Immigration applications on behalf of foreigners, especially requests for new work visas and/or renewals;
  • Obtaining or updating the Employers’ Registration Certificate;
  • If the previous verification visit to the company took place more than one year ago.

Immigration authorities have reported frequent denials to access corporate premises, and in case the authorities are not able to complete a verification visit they reserve the right to suspend or deny applications sponsored by the company.
