GERMANY: Long Waiting Times for Visa Appointments at German Missions in India

October 17, 2019

The German authorities have published current waiting times for visa appointments at the various German missions around India.

Waiting times vary drastically depending on the mission and the visa type:

  • Visa appointments for degree-level students take between 48 hours (Chennai) and 6 months (New Delhi);
  • Visa appointments for employment (with prior ZAV approval) take between 24 hours (Chennai VFS Global Visa Application Centre) and six months (New Delhi);
  • Visa appointments for family reunion take between one week (Kolkata) and eight months (New Delhi);
  • National (D) visa appointments take between one week (Kolkata) and 30 weeks (New Delhi).
  • Schengen visa appointments take between 48 hours (New Delhi, Bengaluru or Kolkata) and three weeks (Mumbai).

Background

Germany has had high volumes of visa applications from India for some time, but since 2018 the numbers have increased.  Applicants at missions in other Asian countries, as well as in Africa and the Americas, may also experience long waiting times.
