MALAYSIA: Changes to the Employment Pass Renewal Process

Effective 1 July 2021, companies renewing employment permits (EPs) for their foreign national employees with the same job title, job description and in the same entity no longer need to upload the following documents:

  • Resume;
  • Educational certificate;
  • Job description.

This applies to companies registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD). The same documents are already excluded for EP renewals for companies registered with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: Issuance of Physical Emirates ID Cards Temporarily Suspended

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has temporarily suspended the issuance of physical Emirates ID cards due to ongoing work on a new, advanced version of the card.

An electronic version, featuring a QR code, is available on the ICA UAE Smart app, and is available for iOS and Android devices.

The ICA asks Emirates ID card applicants to use the electronic version for all government services until their new physical cards are printed. The new cards will feature additional visual and electronic security features.
