SPAIN: Immigration Authorities Suspend In-Person and Telephone Consultations
The Spanish immigration authorities have issued an announcement confirming the temporary suspension of in-person and telephone consultations at both the Large Companies Unit (Unidad de Grandes Empresas – “UGE”) as well as the temporary suspension of in-person consultations at the General Subdirectorate of Immigration.
PORTUGAL: Visa and Residence Procedures Simplified
Regulatory Decree no. 9/2018, published on 11 September 2018, took effect on 1 October 2018. As well as implementing the 2017 amendments to the immigration law which transposed certain EU Directives into Portuguese law (see our previous alert here), the decree seeks to simplify visa application and residence permit procedures and to reduce processing times.
CANADA/MEXICO/UNITED STATES: Revised Trade Deal Leaves Work Visa Provisions Unchanged
The new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), reached between Canada, Mexico and the United States late on 30 September 2018, leaves intact the immigration provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which it will replace if ratified.
NEW ZEALAND: Work Visa Application Fees to Double
Effective 5 November 2018, application fees for New Zealand visas will increase dramatically. The fee changes will impact individuals applying for work, residence and visitor visas and employers seeking accreditation or sponsoring work and residence visas.
POLAND: New Appointment Booking Procedures
Effective immediately, a new online appointment booking system is in place at the Warsaw immigration office (Mazovian Provincial Office) for initial and renewal applications for type A work permits.
