July 1, 2024

By: Patricia Clarino

Smart identity cards held by Hong Kong permanent and non-permanent residents that were issued before November 26, 2018, will undergo phased invalidation in 2025. Residents are required to apply for a replacement card before the advised deadline.

Phase 1 affects residents born in 1970 or later, whose cards will be invalidated by May 12, 2025. Phase 2, for those born in 1969 or earlier, will have their cards invalidated by October 12, 2025. Failure to replace cards by deadlines may result in fines. Appointments for replacement can be made via Hong Kong Immigration website or hotline.
