September 25, 2018

Effective 24 September 2018, the e-FRRO system for online registration and visa-related services has been extended to Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Plus, an Indian electronic visa (e-Visa), whether for tourism, business or medical purposes, can now be used up to three times in a single calendar year.

E-FRRO Extended

Effective 24 September 2018, the e-FRRO system for online registration and visa-related services has been extended to Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar.

In-country registrations and visa extensions in these locations can now be completed online rather than in person.

In April 2018, the e-FRRO system was extended to all Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs) in India, and now the government is expanding the service to include other major centres served by Foreigners Registration Offices (FROs).

E-Visas Can Be Used Three Times in a Year

An Indian electronic visa (e-Visa), whether for tourism, business or medical purposes, can now be used up to three times in a single calendar year.

Previously, the e-Visa could only be used twice in a single calendar year.

An application for an e-Visa can be made a minimum of four days before arrival to India and a maximum of 120 days before arrival. The validity of an e-Visa is 60 days from the date of arrival in India. Double entry is permitted on an e-tourist visa or an e-business visa within the 60-day period.

Triple entry is permitted on an e-medical visa.

Our Advice

Foreign nationals requiring visa services from an FRRO or one of the above-listed FROs should register for an e-FRRO account.

Business travellers planning trips to India, and their employers, are advised to check carefully the e-Visa requirements.
