Indian missions in UAE now accepting online visa applications
October 19, 2011
Yesterday the Indian missions in the UAE began accepting online visa applications, in a measure designed to make the applications process quicker and more streamlined for the many visitors to India from the UAE each year.
The Indian Missions issued between 80,000 to 100,000 visas to tourists and business visitors from UAE to India last year.
MK Lokesh (Indian ambassador to the UAE), announced to media that the Indian missions will stop accepting paper applications from 1 January 2012 and that the Indian government”s aim is to make it necessary for all applicants to apply for tourist visas online.
He stated, “This system of online application is being rolled out in a phased manner in all Indian embassies and consulates around the world. It will be introduced on a voluntary basis in the UAE with effect from October 18, 2011. During the transition period, the applicants can continue to use the current visa forms if they choose to do so.”
This emphasises that all countries are heading towards using technology as a major part of their immigration and visa application processes. Although in some cases this will improve efficiency, it does give rise to the question that for those individuals who wish to enter the UAE as tourists, will they actually have access to a computer to prepare online applications, especially in the more remote areas of India.
Newland Chase would be pleased to offer advice or assistance in the preparation of online applications for any person wishing to travel to India on business or tourism purposes.
