Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) is putting a temporary arrangement in place to facilitate those with expired Irish Residence Permit cards who wish to travel internationally during the Christmas period. The Minister for Justice has issued a Travel Confirmation Notice requesting carriers to allow individuals to travel on recently expired IRP cards on the condition that an application to renew their permission was submitted in advance of the expiry date of the IRP card.

Eligible non-EEA nationals who are required to apply for a renewal of their IRP card may use their current recently expired IRP card to enable them to travel from December 02, 2024, to January 31, 2025.

Persons intending to avail of this opportunity should complete the following steps:

  1. Download and print this letter from the Department of Justice.
  2. Print the email confirmation from the IRP card renewal application.
  3. Present the notice, along with the expired IRP card, and proof of renewal application to immigration authorities and airlines if requested to do so.

The Department will advise all airlines and foreign missions of this initiative but if travel involves a third country to return to Ireland it is a matter for that jurisdiction to require travelers to meet their immigration requirements. It is therefore important to take local immigration advice as required.
