IRELAND: Removes Labour Restrictions for Romania and Bulgaria

On the 20th July 2012, Ireland”s Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (DEJI) announced that transitional work restrictions for Romanian and Bulgarian nationals would be removed, effective immediately.
When Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union on the 1st January 2007, Member States were allowed to implement controls to limit the number of nationals from the two new EU countries who could work without authorisation.
Under European law all labour restrictions on Romanian and Bulgarian nationals must be lifted by the 31st December 2013. Many countries have already lifted the controls and due to a big decrease in the number of people coming from both Romania and Bulgaria to find work, Ireland has now also lifted all restrictions.
This means that Romanian and Bulgarian nationals will no longer have to acquire an employment visa before travelling to Ireland to commence working. Companies who wish to sponsor these nationals for assignments in Ireland will also be exempt from having to prepare a work visa in advance of the assignees transfer to Ireland.
