ISRAEL: Strike and Holiday Closures at Israeli Consulates Worldwide

September 4, 2018

Support staff in the consular sections of all Israeli diplomatic missions worldwide have gone on strike, resulting in a suspension of operations. The duration of the strike has not been announced.

The suspension of the Israeli missions’ services could delay immigration processing, especially in conjunction with the start of the holiday season lasting though most of September.

Holiday Closures

Israeli government offices will be closed during the Jewish holidays on the following dates:

  • Rosh Hashanah: From 9 to 11 September
  • Yom Kippur: From 18 to 19 September
  • Sukkoth: From 23 September to 2 October

During this time, no work permits or visa applications will be adjudicated. Israeli consular posts abroad will also suspend their operations or conduct limited processing.

Our Advice

Employers should take into consideration the suspension of consular operations due to the strike, and the closure of government offices during the holiday season, when planning assignments, projects and work start dates.
