JAPAN: Visa Regime Eased for Russians

January 11, 2017

Following on from a leaders meeting in December 2016, Japan has announced that there will be a new multiple-entry three-year visa for Russians who hold regular foreign passports and want to stay in Japan for longer than 30 days. This came into effect on 1st January 2017.

More travellers now fit the criteria for the multiple-entry visa under the new regulations that have been announced, and applicants who pay for their own trips will not have to provide a statement from a guarantor.

Japan also increased the validity of multiple-entry visas that are issued to Russian scientists, cultural figures and entrepreneurs from three to five years.

Following on from the leaders meeting the Japanese Foreign Ministry said: “The easing of visa requirements will help bolster ties with Russia as well as expand personal contacts; create more convenient conditions for tourists and businessmen and will certainly increase the number of return visits”.
