QATAR: Foreign National Engineers Must Register

May 16, 2018

The Qatari authorities have announced a new regulation that requires foreign nationals applying to renew their residence permits or amend their employment contracts for engineering positions to first register with the Engineering Committee of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

Who does this apply to?

The requirement to register applies to all categories of engineers, project managers and surveyors already holding residence permits in Qatar.

Sanctions

The practice of these professions without registration will be considered a violation of the law, punishable by imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or a fine not exceeding 100,000 riyals, or both.

Our Advice

Employers of foreign national engineers in Qatar should ensure their engineer employees are registered with the MME’s Engineering Committee as soon as possible.
