QATAR: New Driving Licence Procedure for Expats

Qatar”s traffic department has issued a directive to end the conversion of expatriates from other GCC countries into Qatari driving licences. This privilege will now be available to GCC citizens only.

Direct driving tests for holders of licences issued in several countries will also be stopped with immediate effect. In order to gain a driving license, they will now have to pass at least a half day driving course in Qatar. The countries that will be affected by the new rules are as follows;  India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Nepal, Sri  Lanka, China, Egypt, Somalia, Mauritania, Sudan, Ghana, Eritrea, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, China and North Korea.
