SWEDEN: Faster Processing for Work and Residence Permit Applications

May 19, 2017

The Swedish Migration Agency has now implemented a faster process for work and residence permit applications submitted by certified companies.

First-time applications submitted on or after 2nd May 2017 will be processed within ten business days, while extension applications will be processed within twenty business days.

Applications already submitted on or before 1st May 2017 will be processed through the previous system.

Background

Fast-track processing is available for applications submitted by certified companies (including by relocation companies on behalf of their clients). The application must be complete and submitted online.

In April, the Swedish Migration Agency reported that initial work and residence permit applications were taking from one to two months to process, and that extension applications could take up to seven months, even for applications submitted by certified companies.

Our advice

Employers should take into account the new expedited processing times in their planning.
