UK Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) Allocation Renewal

February 21, 2014

If you hold a Tier 2 or Tier 5 sponsor licence, you may already have received an email from the Home office to remind you that current allocations of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) are due to expire on 5th April 2014.  As all Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer and Tier 2 General unrestricted CoS allocations are subject to an annual fixed allocation period running from 6th April to 5th April, the 2014/2015 allocations are now due for renewal. The renewal request should be submitted before 5th April 2014 in order to come into effect on 6th April 2014. Even if the request is submitted much earlier, the allocation can only come into effect on 6th April 2014. Any CoS left over from this allocation period will not be carried over to the new allocation period.

If a company does not foresee the need to renew their annual CoS allocation at present, but circumstances change and CoS do need to be issued, a request can be made to the Home Office at any time during the year. However, CoS cannot be issued until the Home Office has considered and granted the request, which can take some time.
