UK: Delays in Visa Applications from the US

The British Consulate General in New York is currently experiencing a high volume of UK visa applications coupled with technical issues following the recent introduction of Biometric Residence Permit cards for overseas applicants and ensuing IT upgrades.
The Entry Clearance Manager has advised that the technical issues have now been resolved but, as a result of subsequent backlogs, please be aware that applications submitted in the US and Canada will have extended processing times. Priority Service applications typically take 5-6 working days to process (excluding transit time for the application to be couriered to and from New York). Under current circumstances, the processing time is around 9 working days (again, excluding transit time).
As usual, we advise applicants not to make any solid travel plans whilst their application is under consideration or to ensure, at the very least, they have a transferrable flight.
