UK Electronic Visa Waiver launches for nationals from Oman, Qatar and UAE

December 19, 2013

1st January 2014 marks another important change to the UK immigration visa process for visitor with the introduction of the electronic visa waiver (EVW) for nationals from Oman, Qatar and UAE. According to the Home Secretary, Theresa May, visitors from the Middle East are thriving with a 29% increase of grants of visit visa from the Middle East.

Nationals from Oman, Qatar and UAE with a view to visit the UK for up to 6 months may obtain an EVW from 1st January 2014 by completing a simple free registration form from within the Home Office Visa4UK system. Travellers must do so within online at least 48 hours before travelling and should present the registration to the port officer on arrival to the UK.

The EVW negates the need for visitors from these countries to make formal applications to the Home Office and to provide biometric details. Visitors from these countries applying for long-term, multiple visit visa will still be required to make formal applications to the Home Office.

This move follows the overall objective from the Government to business travellers and visitors to the UK. We understand the scheme will continue to expand the next country on the list to benefit under the EVW will be Kuwait later in 2014.
