UK Immigration Update: Tuberculosis Screening

February 20, 2014

As of 31st March, those applying for a UK visa valid for 6 months or more from the following countries will be required to obtain a medical certificate confirming no presence of Tuberculosis:

  • Algeria,
  • Belarus
  • Bhutan
  • Burma
  • Iraq
  • Sri Lanka
  • Ukraine

The above countries are being added to an already comprehensive list spanning numerous continents, contained in Appendix T of the Immigration Rules including the Russian Federation, South Africa, India and China. The appendix also provides a list of approved screening clinics from which applicants must obtain the certificate prior to attending their biometric appointment and submitting all supporting documentation for their visa application.

The countries to be added to Appendix T were published in a “Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules” on 10th March. The statement also provides an updated list of approved clinics and amended contact details in several countries such as China.
