UNITED KINGDOM – BNO Visa Update

Children of BNO status holders can, as of 30 November 2022, apply independently for a BNO Visa. BNO – British national (overseas) – applies to individuals who were British overseas territory citizens by connection with Hong Kong before 01 July 1997, when British rule over Hong Kong ended. At that point, these individuals became British overseas citizens.

For children of BNO status holders to be eligible to apply for a BNO visa, they must:

  • Have at least one BNO parent
  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have been born on or after 01 July 1997
  • Reside in Hong Kong
