UNITED KINGDOM – Tech Nation to ‘Cease Operations’

February 10, 2023

Tech Nation, the endorsing body in charge of assessing Global Talent applications in the digital technology category on behalf of the Home Office of the United Kingdom, announced it will cease operations on 31 March 2023.

The explanation for this unexpected development is that the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) grant funding on which Tech Nation has apparently relied for the past 10 years has been withdrawn and without this core support, Tech Nation finds itself unable to continue to operate.  In a further worrying development, as part of its press release, Tech Nation has announced that the core funding which has been withdrawn by the DCMS has instead been awarded to Barclays Bank.

Having operated as a non-profit in the Tech sector for over ten years, Tech Nation has built up a portfolio of assets which it is currently trying to sell. It is currently unclear who will take over the responsibility of assessing Global Talent applications. The endorsement application is an integral part of the Global Talent visa application process. Once endorsed, the visa application must be lodged within 90 days or it expires and a new endorsement is needed.

It remains to be seen how Global Talent applications in the digital technology category will be assessed in the UK after 31 March 2023.
