USA: Potential Impact of Trump”s Proposed Immigration Policies

As President-elect Donald Trump begins planning for the work of his administration, there  are many unanswered questions around how his administration will execute the many concepts he raised during his election campaign. Specifically for Newland Chase, will his hard-line rhetoric on immigration result in a new policy for the United States Government?

Whilst there is a high level of uncertainty around the specific policies Mr. Trump”s administration will propose around US immigration and significant questions around the probability that proposals will actually be adopted, it is worth reviewing the immigration concepts he had raised during his campaign and the potential impact they may have:

While not impacting corporate or skilled immigration, one area where Trump could affect immediate policy change is by repealing the executive action on immigration which granted temporary relief to some illegal immigrants.  The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was implemented by President Obama in 2012 and allows temporary relief from deportation for some immigrants who illegally entered the US before their 16th birthdays.

For those that may feel that these policies could have a potential impact on their business or livelihood, it is worth noting that whether it is Brexit or the US immigration policy, implementation of new regulation will take time and that the final policy after negotiation with lawmakers, often looks very different from what is discussed as campaign rhetoric.
