VENEZUELA: Delays Expected to Immigration Procedures Due to Energy Outages

April 5, 2019

Government offices were forced to cease operations for more than 15 business days during March 2019, due to nationwide power outages, leading to delays in all immigration processes.

Additional delays are expected due to electricity rationing starting on 6 April 2019 and lasting 30 days, during which period government offices will operate for six instead of eight hours a day.

Background

Venezuela suffered a nationwide power failure on 7 March 2019. Power was partially restored in some areas by 13 March. A second blackout, lasting a week, began on 25 March.

Our Advice

Employers and their foreign national employees who may be affected by the delays are advised to avoid initiating new immigration procedures until government offices return to normal operations, and to expect significant delays in pending applications.
