CANADA: Immigration Updates Announced

The Canadian authorities have introduced several updates recently, a summary of which are as follows:
Firstly, applicants are warned that multiple incidents of scammers posing as Canadian immigration officials have been reported. This type of scam involves scammers contacting foreign nationals on the telephone and claiming that insufficient documentation was provided when they entered Canada. The callers then fraudulently request personal information and payment from the individual.
Please note that Canadian immigration authorities will never contact foreign nationals (or their employers) via telephone for personal information or payment of any type. If contacted in this manner, foreign nationals shouldn”t provide the information or payment and contact local law enforcement.
Also, from the 1st June 2016, Canadian authorities will introduce the “Mobilité Francophone” stream. This is an initiative to increase French-speaking immigration in Canada, by allowing foreign nationals of French-speaking countries to be exempt from the Labour Market Impact Assessment (“LMIA”) process.
In order to qualify for the scheme, applicants are required to hold managerial, professional, or skilled positions and intend to work outside of Quebec.
Finally, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently conducted the 30th Express Entry Draw, allowing skilled foreign nationals an opportunity to apply for permanent residence in Canada with or without a concrete job offer.
